Unlike the members of the [[Male Sheargrub|opposing gender]], they are scavengers and do not attack [[leader]]s or [[Pikmin family|Pikmin]], although they still chase them. Their behavior, along with their light pink color and relatively small jaws, is the most distinctive difference between males and females of the species. As with Male Sheargrubs, however, they eat [[bridge]]s that were built on a previous day. In all games, they provide only one seed, and thus are usually not worth bringing back to the [[Onion]].

Female Sheargrubs are harmless pests and can be defeated with ease by either the Pikmin or a leader's [[punch]]es; there is no threat at all. A single Pikmin on their backs should take them out instantly. Leading them into water will also deplete their [[health]].

The Female Sheargrub is the female counterpart to the [[Male Sheargrub]], which naturally explains the "Female" part of the name. The term "Sheargrub" is a combination of "shear", which means "to cut", and "grub". This is because Female Sheargrubs have scissor-like pincers (although they are only capable of destroying [[bridge]]s), and resemble [[wikipedia:Grub|grubs]]. When they chew, scissor-snapping sounds can be heard. The Japanese name is {{j|ウジンコ♀|Ujinko ♀}}, in which {{j|ウジ|uji}} means "maggot", and {{j|いん|inko}} means "parrot". The "parrot" part might reference their mouth, which looks like the beak of a parakeet. The Japanese name also contains the [[wikipedia:Venus symbol|Venus symbol]]. The creature's scientific name, ''himeagea mandibulosa'', has the unknown word ''himeagae'', while the word ''mandibulosa'' is Latin for "mandible".

 

The internal name in ''Pikmin'', <code>kabekuiA</code> is made up of {{j|かべ|kabe|wall|f=tp}} and {{j|く|kui|to eat|f=tp}}. The fact that it is called "[[Gate|wall]] eater" instead of "[[bridge]] eater" seems to indicate that, [[Pikmin prerelease information|during development]], the creature served a different purpose. The <code>A</code> in the name is the disambiguation identifier for each [[mandiblard family|mandiblard]]; the Female Sheargrub has an <code>A</code>, the Male has a <code>B</code>, and the [[Shearwig]] has a <code>C</code>. The internal name in ''Pikmin 2'' is simply <code>ujia</code>, with <code>uji</code> being part of the Japanese name, and the <code>a</code> being once again the identifier. Finally, ''Pikmin 3'' follows the same scheme as the previous game, but with the name starting with <code>ujinko_</code>.
