Synopsis[edit]
First version[edit]
A mother is playing with her child. Somebody knocks on the door and the mother leaves the room, but not before giving the baby their pacifier. Toys such as playing blocks and a rattle start to move. The baby picks up the rattle and starts playing with it until its pacifier falls out of their mouth. The pacifier starts moving, confusing the baby. The baby tries to retrieve the pacifier, but it starts stumbling over various toy blocks trying to run away, eventually climbing onto a beanbag. The baby tries to stumble their way to their pacifier, but loses their footing and trips headfirst onto the beanbag and sending the pacifier to an armchair. The baby then plays with the armchair, bouncing the pacifier and then landing on the baby's head and itch their nose.
The baby then sneezes, sending the pacifier to the shelves. The pacifier runs along the shelves, while the baby continues to follow, but it hits itself onto a ball in the process, getting rolled over by it and lands onto the elephant plushie's trunk. The ball hits the baby on their head, landing their back onto the plushie and launching the pacifier to a mobile hanger. As the baby tries to walk towards the mobile, their mother comes back in the room to discover their child walking by themself. The baby trips, but the mother grabs them, and lets her child walk towards her. The baby signals their mother about the pacifier hanging on the mobile, and the mother gives it to them. The mother then embraces her child, as the movie fades to black.
Second version[edit]
A mother is playing with her child, but suddenly someone knocks on the door. The mother leaves the room, but not before giving the baby their pacifier. A Red Pikmin starts moving various toys, such as playing blocks, while a Yellow and Blue Pikmin pushes a rattle towards the baby. The baby picks up the rattle and starts playing with it until its pacifier falls out of their mouth, hitting a Red Pikmin carrying a toy block. The Red Pikmin briefly takes interest in the pacifier, but decides to pick up its toy block again. A Yellow Pikmin and Blue Pikmin walk over to the pacifier, with the latter beating its teat. The Red Pikmin takes notice of this and swipes the pacifier away, causing the three Pikmin to fight over it and confusing the baby. The baby tries to retrieve the pacifier, but the Red Pikmin carrying it stumbles over various toy blocks trying to run away from the baby. The Red Pikmin eventually climbs on a beanbag with the pacifier. The baby tries to stumble their way to their pacifier, but loses their footing and trips headfirst onto the beanbag, sending the pacifier-carrying Pikmin to an armchair.
The pacifier eventually lands on a resting Blue Pikmin, who tries to get it off. The baby, however, plays with the armchair and tries to grab the pacifier off the Blue Pikmin, bouncing it and other nearby Pikmin. The Blue Pikmin lands on the baby's head and itches their nose. The baby then sneezes, sending the Blue Pikmin to the shelves and hitting a Yellow Pikmin. The pacifier comes loose, and another group of Pikmin starts fighting over it and running along the shelves, while the baby continues to follow. Eventually, they hit themselves onto a ball, and the Yellow Pikmin carrying the pacifier gets rolled over by it and falls onto the elephant plushie's trunk. The ball hits the baby on their head, landing their back onto the plushie, launching the Yellow Pikmin to a mobile hanger, where a Red Pikmin drops inside the now entangled pacifier. As the baby tries to walk towards the mobile, their mother comes back in the room to discover their child walking by themself. The baby trips, but the mother grabs them, inevitably just in time to save a hapless Yellow Pikmin, and lets her child walk towards her. The baby signals their mother about the pacifier hanging on the mobile, and the mother gives it to them. The mother then embraces her child, as all the Pikmin in the room bloom flowers.

Trivia[edit]
- The music in the short uses the Pikmin motif and Pikmin Tune 1 from Pikmin 4.
- The first version's "invisible Pikmin" may be a reference to the claim in Pikmin Bloom that "Pikmin are invisible to the human eye".
- At the end of the second version, one of the Yellow Pikmin that was hanging on to the light switch can be seen falling but then slowly floating down after it blooms a flower. This may be a reference to a scene in Occupational Hazards, where the endangered Pikmin bloom flowers to slowly float down to break their fall after the backhoe breaks down.
- The short only contains the original three Pikmin types introduced in Pikmin, with no other Pikmin characters.
- The short is known worldwide as simply "Close to You" or "Close to you"; the name is not translated.
