Pikmin 2 is a port of the original Pikmin 2 to the Nintendo Switch, released in 2023. It is based on the port of Pikmin 2 for the Wii, and features a number of changes to it.

A bundle of this game and the Pikmin Switch port was also released as Pikmin 1+2.

Changes

In general, the game has no regional differences unlike the previous releases, and is instead based on the North American version. This port is also built off of the North American version of New Play Control! Pikmin 2, meaning that unless stated otherwise, all changes from that version also apply to this game. On top of those and the changes common to both this game and Pikmin 1 (Nintendo Switch), which are listed here, the following additional changes exist.

Gameplay

The following article or section is in need of assistance from someone who plays the Nintendo Switch version of Pikmin 2. Particularly: Document if the predetermined layouts for the 2-Player Battle stages are still accessible via button inputs.

• There is now a screen displaying the game's controls, which is accessible by pressing .
• Holding while using is now how the camera is rotated in the Piklopedia and the Treasure Hoard. If the camera was already looking in a direction via alone, the camera will keep looking in that direction while rotating.
• By default, unless overridden with , stages in 2-Player Battle always generate using the unbalanced random generation mode. This is further explained here.

Visuals

• The background of the leaders' character icons now no longer has a cut-out of Olimar's icon built into it. While this does technically fix a mistake where all leaders mistakenly used the background texture only meant for Olimar's icon, this creates the likely unintended result of slightly tinting the leader icons the colors of their backgrounds.
• Much of the product placement in the original game have been removed and replaced with fictional brands. This change impacts treasures in the Mystical Energy Series, Massive Receptacle Series, Survival Series, Ancient Ad Series, and Odd Logo Series.
• The pre-rendered cinemas have been re-rendered and then upscaled.
  • The white space inside the President's hair curl in the Debt Repayment Cinema has been removed.
  • The lighting on Louie during the Credits is drastically different.
  • Olimar now correctly possesses hair in the first shot of the Goal Completion Cinema.
• The European model of the Arboreal Frippery is now used in all regions.

Text

• Various pieces of text have been changed. (e.g.: Hocotate ship's dialogs, mail, Olimar's Journal, etc.)
  • Spam mail has been changed to remove links to promotional sites.
• Various treasures and series were renamed.
  • The Husband's Tears Series was renamed to the Expensive Sentiments Series.
  • The Space Love Series was renamed to the Celestial Vibes Series.
  • The Gemstar Wife was renamed to the Red Gemstar.
  • The Gemstar Husband was renamed to the Green Gemstar.
  • The Gherkin Gate was renamed to the Flavor Gate.
• The Caustic Dweevil was renamed to the Hydro Dweevil.
• The Doodlebug's family was changed from the flint bug family to the flint beetle family (the same family as the Iridescent Flint Beetle) to match with the Japanese version's script.
• The single instance of the word "Louie" on day 1 that was colored blue has been recolored to yellow, matching the color of Louie's icon background in Pikmin 3.

Audio

• The Pikmin singing Ai no Uta Easter egg has been removed.
• Concrete 1 and Flooded Stump have some instruments missing.

History

This port was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation on June 21^st, 2023, alongside a port of Pikmin. Both were released digitally on the eShop immediately after the presentation concluded, either individually or as a bundle called Pikmin 1+2. This bundle received a physical release in North America, Europe, and Japan on September 22^nd, 2023.

On September 21^st, 2023, the game received an update, which added support for more languages and made other changes.
