What Event Challenges to Expect and Stage Difficulty
As of the 2024 Spring Festival Event, the current types of event challenges consist of walking steps, growing Pikmin, completing expeditions (replacing collecting petals), planting (seasonal) flowers, and destroying mushrooms.
It should be noted that event challenges will become more difficult as the player progress through stages within a round by increasing the amount of event challenges and the required totals for all event challenge types. Beginning in Stage 1, only a few amount of event challenges are given, with the first three quarters of Stage 1 containing one to complete. Planting flowers is also required for the last quarter, but any type could used. However, starting on Stage 2, mushroom event challenges appear in the last three quarters of the following stages, and planting seasonal flowers of the month become required for all planting flower event challenges going forward, as the first one usually starts with planting 500 flowers of a seasonal flower. Stage 3 increases the amount of mushrooms to be destroyed and the amount of seasonal flowers to be planted, and the last quarter gives three event challenges to complete, always two for planting seasonal flowers and one for destroying mushrooms. Finally, on Stage 4, mushroom event challenges need to be completed in every quarter, and the amount of seasonal flowers to be planted and event challenges revolving around them increase once more, particularly now needing blue seasonal flowers, as blue nectar is the most scarce color to accumulate.
Walk Steps
This type of event challenge usually appears in the first quarter for the first three stages of a round. Although it could be completed as intended by simply walking, it is possible to complete the event challenge while in a confined spot such as at home by shaking the device or brisking back and forth to gain steps.
Grow Pikmin
This type of event challenge usually appears in the second quarter in the first stage, requiring 2 Pikmin to be grown, and in the third quarter in the second stage of a round, requiring 3 Pikmin to be grown. One way to quickly complete this type of event challenge is by growing Gold Seedlings, which are the fastest seedling to grow, needing 100 steps, and are rewarded by completing event challenges and stages (guaranteed one in the latter). If Gold Seedlings are not an available option, Red, Yellow, and Blue seedlings can also be grown, needing 1,000 steps. Unless done prior, it is not recommended that all Planter Slots to be taken up by seedlings that require lots of steps to grow, particularly Huge Seedlings and could slow progress down if they are not grown right away to complete the event challenge if available. Pikmin that are ready to be plucked can also be saved for later when the event challenge to grow Pikmin is available.
Complete expeditions
This type of event challenge usually appears in the third quarter in the first stage, requiring 2 expeditions to be completed, and in the first quarter in both the third and fourth stage of a round, requiring 2 and 3 expeditions to be completed respectively. An expedition is counted once the reward is claimed from the Pikmin after they completed one. Similar to growing Pikmin, unclaimed expedition rewards can be saved for later when the event challenge to complete expeditions is available. If there are no nearby expeditions, using a Detector could be used to spawn a few items to finish the event challenge. Mushroom battle expeditions are not counted.
Plant Flowers
Two types of seasonal flowers are used for the event challenges, usually one previous and the debut seasonal flower. Mushroom battles, event wheel prizes, and the weekly challenge of planting flowers are the main sources to gaining seasonal nectar and petals. For mushrooms, regular and event mushrooms are the main options, and each have their own pros and cons. Regular mushrooms can come in several colors of each Pikmin type and in small, normal, and large sizes, but also rarely in elemental varieties. Elemental and large sized mushrooms are ideal to gaining large amounts of nectar, but they are not guaranteed to give the two specific types of seasonal nectar required to completing the event challenges, and even moreso could give regular nectar instead. Event mushrooms on the otherhand, only come in normal and giant sizes, and are very common everywhere on the map. Only specific decor Pikmin (particularly the newest special decor type for the current event) are the strongest to destroy these mushrooms, which results in event mushrooms sometimes being harder to gain a high score to achieve large amounts of nectar. Normal event mushrooms can give both regular and seasonal nectar and do not grant much, while giant event mushrooms are guaranteed to give seasonal nectar in decent amounts. However, unlike regular mushrooms, destroying these event mushrooms grant mystery boxes, usually for event currency but also for seedlings and items (Most common on the latter for normals, but most common on the former for giants, albeit in huge amounts.). That being said, seasonal nectar shortage can happen if the mushrooms fought do not give enough seasonal nectar for the current event challenge or for later one down the line, which can lead to being stuck on certain flowering planting event challenges or not making any progress. Although, regular mushrooms have better chances of getting large amounts of seasonal nectar, event mushrooms could be ignored and missed out for its mystery box rewards and event currency. Both main mushrooms options must be balanced if the player aims for event currency rewards from mystery boxes while completing seasonal nectar event challenges.
Destroy Mushrooms
The time that a mushroom finishes can matter sometimes as they will count once they are fully destroyed. Both regular and event mushrooms count to the total. If the current mushroom event mushroom is finished but any additional mushrooms get destroyed afterwards, they are essentially wasted and cannot no longer be used for the next mushroom event challenge. There could be times where the current mushroom event challenge is finished, but free tries are still left over. Unfinished planting flower event challenges can also mess up the finished mushrooms battles for later ones. Sending a weak team and setting it to a designated time is a good strategy to work around these issues, although be wary of other players who could possibly join and shorten the time. In contrast, mushrooms that are quick to finish, such as small mushrooms or ones ending very soon, can be destroyed to quickly finish a mushroom event challenge. Overall, flower planting event challenges should be finished alongside mushroom event challenges and sent Pikmin teams should set the times accordingly to perserve mushrooms for later mushroom event challenges. Due to the presence of this event challenge appearing on every stage, it can take days to progress stages since a limit to 3 mushrooms can be fought for free daily and later stages will increase the amount up to 4 and 5 mushrooms, although Mushroom Tickets can also be used to quickly complete them each day.
