Castaways (referred to as rescues) is the name given to the people stranded on PNF-404 in Pikmin 4. It is one of the player's missions to find and save all of them, whether they be missing members of the Rescue Corps or civilian castaways. Castaways are typically found in the final sublevel of a cave and have to be carried back to the S.S. Beagle.

The following day, they can be talked to at the Rescue Command Post. Some unlock features like the Piklopedia, or give the player side quests to complete. Each rescue also earns 1 Pup Drive for Oatchi, which can be used to unlock new abilities for him.

Certain castaways have instead been turned into leaflings and must be rescued by completing a Dandori Challenge or a Dandori Battle.

Rescue order

While each castaway is in a specific location and can be saved in any order, the order of which castaways are unlocked will always be the same. For example, if the player skips saving the castaway in the Last-Frost Cavern but saves the one in the Crackling Cauldron as their first, it will always be Russ that they save first. It is unknown if leaflings follow this same trend.

The first rescue is of Shepherd and is somewhat unique, as you do not have to take her to the S.S. Beagle, but rather just defeat 3 Bulborb Larva she has surrounding her. The game still considers this a rescue, however.

The following is a list of the order of which castaways are rescued.
