42 Pikmin challenge

A 57-Pikmin run is a full playthrough challenge run of Pikmin 3 with only 57 Pikmin, the minimum possible number. The game can either be minimally finished or completed to 100% with this amount. Because the heaviest fruit, the Wayward Moon, requires 20 Pikmin to carry, no more than 20 of any color is necessary, and the player is limited to how many of a color are initially obtained or are needed for an obstacle. Use of Candypop Buds makes growing more Pikmin unnecessary in some cases. This challenge is predicted to be very difficult, and no run is known to have been completed. It is also unknown how many days would be necessary.
Requirements
- 20 Red Pikmin to move the cardboard box in Tropical Wilds at the beginning.
- 6 Rock Pikmin obtained from a Medusal Slurker in Garden of Hope. Any number of Rock Pikmin can be used to break crystals and crystal walls.
- 20 Yellow Pikmin to move an iron ball in Distant Tundra, to leave the cave they are found in. Glitches have been found to go out of bounds and leave the cave with only the 5 Yellow Pikmin initially available to complete an electrode to activate the Onion, though these exploits may have been or will be patched.
- 10 Winged Pikmin to lift all bamboo gates in the game. No Pink Candypop Bud is found until Formidable Oak, so 10 must be grown.
- 1 Blue Pikmin found at its Onion. The heaviest fruit that requires Blue Pikmin is a completely submerged Portable Sunset in Distant Tundra, needing 15 to carry. However, other colors can be thrown into Lapis Lazuli Candypop Buds in Tropical Wilds to obtain this amount.
