The Nintendo Switch 2 is Nintendo's ninth home console, and the successor of the Nintendo Switch. It was officially announced on January 16th, 2025 and released on June 5th, 2025. It has technological differences compared to its predecessor, particularly with its detachable controllers being magnetic to attach to the console and being able to be used for mouse controls. Exclusive to the console is GameChat, a Nintendo Switch Online service to chat with friends while sharing gameplay. The Nintendo Switch 2 is compatible with both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games.
Pikmin content[edit]
Most Nintendo Switch games are compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, which includes Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Pikmin 4, Pikmin 1 (Nintendo Switch), Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch), and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

By extension, Pikmin series amiibo can be used with amiibo supported Nintendo Switch games compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2.

In addition to the 3 built-in Pikmin avatars on the Nintendo Switch and the several Pikmin avatars that can be purchased on the Nintendo Switch Online app, there are 12 Pikmin avatars exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, all of which use artwork from Pikmin 4. Some are similar to the Nintendo Switch Online avatars, while some are completely new. The new icons consist of: a Rock Pikmin in its flower stage sitting, a Winged Pikmin in its leaf stage carrying a Juicy Gaggle, a White Pikmin in its bud stage running, a Purple Pikmin in its flower stage, an Ice Pikmin in its flower stage sitting, a Glow Pikmin carrying a glow pellet, Oatchi, Moss, Captain Olimar, a Bulborb, a Breadbug, a Fiery Blowhog, a Yellow Wollyhop, a Downy Snagret, and a Waterwraith.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is very similar to its predecessor, but has a new “C” button that opens Gamechat and customizable GL and GR buttons. Some loading times have also been reduced.
