Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy is an upcoming enhanced port of Pikmin 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2.[1] It was announced during the September 2026 Nintendo Direct, and it is set to release on November 12th, 2026. The port will feature a new game mode called Dandori Academy. Additionally, the game will feature higher resolution graphics, a way to command Oatchi with voice commands, and the ability to play Dandori Battles online via GameChat and GameShare.[2] The latter is in a similar fashion to how online Bingo Battle functions in Pikmin 3 Deluxe's 1.2.0 update.
As it is a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade, players with a copy of Pikmin 4 and a Nintendo Switch 2 can simply buy the upgrade as a form of paid downloadable content. Otherwise, players can buy the game bundled with the upgrade directly, as a copy that works both on a Nintendo Switch (without the upgrade) as well as on a Nintendo Switch 2.[3]
Differences from Pikmin 4[edit]
Dandori Academy[edit]
- Main article: Dandori Academy.
Dandori Academy is a game mode in which the player can participate in a challenge stage, with the goal being to collect as much treasure as possible, similarly to Dandori Challenges. When players can play is dictated by the real-world calendar. It is possible to practice for stages a few times, but performing a real attempt, known as "taking an exam", can only be done once, and on specific days of the week.
Voice commands[edit]
By using the Nintendo Switch 2's microphone, built-in at the top of the console, players can speak certain phrases into it in order to command Oatchi to do something in-game. There are a total of nine commands, and the following are currently known:[1][4]
- “Jump”: Makes Oatchi jump.
- “Rush”: Makes Oatchi Rush without needing to hold down a button or fill in the gauge. It is unknown whether this bypasses the move's cooldown.
- “Go to work”: Orders Oatchi to work on the task the player is pointing towards, in the same way as if the player had pressed the throw button with Oatchi in standby.
- “Gather Pikmin”: The same as the menu command of the same name.
- “Good pup”: Makes Oatchi close his eyes, wag his tail, and pant proudly. If the Rookie Rescue Officer is riding Oatchi, they will also pet him.
Whenever a voice command is used, a blue speech bubble with an exclamation mark will appear above Oatchi. Playing the game in a language other than English will require the player to speak related phrases in that language.
[edit]
When picking the Dandori Battle game mode option in the main menu, a dialog appears asking the player if they wish to play normally, using GameShare locally, or using GameShare online.
The player hosting will need to run the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4 on a Nintendo Switch 2, while the other player does not need said copy and can use either a Nintendo Switch or a Nintendo Switch 2. However, if the players wish to use GameChat, both of them must use Nintendo Switch 2 Edition copies, Nintendo Switch 2 systems, and have Nintendo Switch Online accounts. For local GameShare play, no internet connection is required, and both consoles must be in close proximity to one another.
Other changes[edit]
- The game's graphics will be output at a higher resolution. In docked mode, it will be output at 4K resolution.[2]
Other information[edit]
- Game size: 11.3 GB for the full bundle, 1.2 GB for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade.
- Supported play modes: TV (1 or 2 players), tabletop (1 or 2 players), and handheld (1 player).[5]
- Supported controllers: two Joy-Con 2 controllers, one sideways Joy-Con 2 (only when playing in multiplayer), and Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
- Supports cloud save data.
- A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is necessary in order to submit high scores in Dandori Academy.[5]
