Re-release of Pikmin
Pikmin 2

Pikmin 1+2 is a bundle of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2, the Nintendo Switch ports of the original Pikmin and Pikmin 2. This bundle was released digitally on June 21st, 2023, for a cheaper price than buying both ports separately.[1] A physical version was released in North America, Europe, and Japan on September 22nd, 2023. When the bundle is purchased, the 2 games have separate icons on the Nintendo Switch Home Menu, and function as separate pieces of software.

Common changes[edit]

Both games have received their own changes compared to the previous versions, listed in the respective game's article. The following is a list of changes that were equally made to both games. These ports were built off of the European and North American versions of New Play Control! Pikmin and New Play Control! Pikmin 2 respectively, meaning that unless stated otherwise, all changes from those versions also apply to these games.

Gameplay[edit]

  • The games use an updated control scheme similar to that of more recent games, such as Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Pikmin 4.
    • the Right Stick on the Switch (dual Joy-Con) is now used to freely control the camera. In order to swarm, the player must hold down the L Button on the Switch while tilting the Right Stick on the Switch (dual Joy-Con).
    • Left Stick click on the Switch (dual Joy-Con) now resets the cursor.
    • Right Stick click on the Switch (dual Joy-Con) now makes the leader lie down, in favor of each game's original way of lying down.
  • The motion controls have been altered, and are very different from the scheme used in the New Play Control! games, rather using almost the same scheme from Pikmin 4. The only differences between the two are that in Pikmin 4, the cursor resets to the previous position when done with motion controls, while Pikmin 1+2 keeps the cursor in place, and, in Pikmin 4 the motion controls doesn't activate when punching while, in Pikmin 1+2 they do.
    • With motion controls enabled, tilting the controller while holding the A Button on the Switch or the B Button on the Switch will move the cursor.
    • Pikmin's positions are still controlled with the right stick when swarming with motion controls, rather than the cursor like in the New Play Control versions.
  • Pressing the A Button on the Switch repeatedly for continued plucking is no longer required. Simply holding the button while plucking will have leaders continue until the button is released or no more sprouts are left.
  • While the player is holding the A Button on the Switch to hold a Pikmin, they can now press the B Button on the Switch to release the Pikmin.
  • Holding the Y Button on the Switch while in the Onion menu now allows the player to change the amount of Pikmin being taken out or put back in by 10 Pikmin at a time, like in Pikmin 4.
  • The games' cursors can reach approximately twice as far away from the leader than the GameCube versions' cursors.

Visuals[edit]

  • Both games now run at 1920x1080 docked mode and 1280x720 in handheld mode, compared to the resolution of 720x480 from the New Play Control! versions.
  • Due to 16:9 displayed having become the standard between the Wii's launch and Nintendo Switch's launch, the games only run in 16:9, rather than either 16:9 or 4:3 like the New Play Control! versions.
  • Most textures have been increased in resolution, using a combination of reused original high quality artwork, creating new higher resolution art based off of the existing art, and upscales of the original games' textures.
  • The number of Pikmin currently holding onto an object is now displayed as the top half of the carry fraction rather than the bottom, like all Pikmin games with carry numbers since Pikmin 3.

Text[edit]

  • Several pieces of text were changed. Any text changes that don't apply to both games are listed in the respective game's article.
    • The Wogpole, Wollywog, and Yellow Wollywog are now called the Wolpole, Wollyhop, and Yellow Wollyhop in all English versions, rather than just in the European versions.
    • All references to the controls have been updated to reflect the games' new control schemes.
    • Various minor formatting changes have been made.

Other[edit]

  • The games' Nintendo logos stay on screen for slightly longer.
    • The "Pikmin!" sound clip is played later, with Pikmin's being played so late that the Nintendo logo disappears right after the sound starts playing.
  • The copyright on the title screens has been changed to just "© Nintendo", without mentioning any release years.
  • Attraction mode has been completely removed. When an attraction mode cutscene should play, the title screen is just reloaded.
  • Due to the lack of speakers on the Nintendo Switch's controllers, the Wii Remote speaker functionality is unavailable.
  • The cursor models from the original GameCube versions are used, rather than the New Play Control! versions' cursor model.
    • The trail effect from the New Play Control! cursor was left unchanged. Since it was designed for the larger New Play Control! cursor, the trail instead comes from the space surrounding the smaller GameCube cursor.

  • Supported play modes: TV (1 or 2 players), tabletop (1 or 2 players), and handheld (1 player).
  • Supported controllers: two Joy-Cons, and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
