Petals are used for flower planting in Pikmin Bloom. To get petals you first require nectar, feeding nectar to Pikmin will allow a flower to bloom on their head, then picking the petals to add them to your inventory.
Using different colour nectar produces different colour flowers and petals, and in turn, flowers.
