Tundra (雪原?, lit.: "Snowfield") is the fourth mission in Olimar's Assignment, representing the fourth day of Olimar and Louie's third trip to PNF-404. It takes place in the Distant Tundra.

Plot[edit]

Olimar's Expedition Log: Tundra Survey[edit]

[The scene shows Captain Olimar facing the camera, while on the section of the area that acts as the landing site during the main story mode.]

This is Olimar, captain of the S.S. Dolphin.

I’ve been to this planet twice before already. I never tire of hunting for treasure here!

Unfortunately, even my advanced space suit can’t quite keep out the cold.

I’m not surprised Hocotate Freight cut costs when it came to insulation. Brrr!

It wouldn’t surprise me if everyone got the same standard-issue suit, no matter what kind of assignment they were on.

The company’s new venture went down in flames, and it’s dragged our yearly earnings down with it.

We don’t have the money for decent space suits now. This one isn’t even custom fitted.

[Olimar looks to his left to see Louie and some Pikmin running around two Bearded Amprats, on the elevated part of the map with the Citrus Lump. Louie gets shocked, and some of the Pikmin get eaten. The scene then returns to Olimar.]

Without any insulation, I wouldn’t want to put this suit up against any nasty shocks, either.

I really should’ve hung onto that Anti-Electrifier…

This cutscene is identical to the Secret File Olimar's Expedition Log - In the Tundra -, but with slightly different subtitles.

Olimar's Expedition Log: Oak Survey[edit]

After completing the mission, an additional video log taking place at the Formidable Oak plays:

[The scene shows Captain Olimar facing the camera while at the circular area west of the landing site in the main story mode.]

This is Olimar, captain of the S.S. Dolphin.

I’ve been to this planet twice before already. I never tire of hunting for treasure here!

Our survey has revealed a massive golden object in this region.

[Louie appears behind him, sneaking from right to left.]

It’ll be worth a fortune to the company!

My taciturn partner, Louie, didn’t want to come here for reasons he refused to explain.

[As Olimar is finishing the previous sentence, a growl and faint footsteps are heard. Louie looks around, frightened, and then dashes off in a hurry from where he came.]

Where did he get to, anyway? Well, it doesn’t matter.

[Olimar looks around as the stomping becomes louder.]

I’ll just get this treasure myself and then it’s back to Hocotate.

[The stomps intensify and another growl is heard.]

[Fade to a black screen. The following is from a third person perspective.]

That was the last anyone heard from Captain Olimar

Whatever became of Olimar and Louie? Perhaps a crew of intrepid Koppaites will find the answer during their adventure…

Olimar’s Assignment

The End.

This cutscene is identical to the Secret File Olimar's Expedition Log - At the Oak -, but with slightly different subtitles. The ending black screen was also added.

Synopsis[edit]

In relation to the Story Mode, this day takes place before Brittany and Alph have landed in the Distant Tundra for the first time, as Olimar mentions he no longer has the Anti-Electrifier, which he buried in the snow near Charlie's crash site.

The ending cutscene takes place outside the Formidable Oak, and alludes to Olimar's disappearance. After this, Louie assumedly traveled back to the Twilight River somehow and got captured by the Scornet Maestro. This means all of Olimar's Assignment must have took place, at the very least, before the Koppaites discovered Twilight River. Given the Anti-Electrifier's placement, it's likely all days take place before the Distant Tundra is discovered.

The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Once the day loads, whistle Louie, the Red Pikmin and Yellow Pikmin. Defeat the Fiery Blowhog and Bearded Amprat with Red and Yellow Pikmin respectively. Get the Red Pikmin to build the path by the Fiery Blowhog and then use the Yellow Pikmin to break down the Electric gate. Split into two groups, Red and Yellow and Blue. Swap to the Blue group and whistle the Blue Pikmin by the Bearded Amprat. Defeat the Toady Bloyster and harvest its corpse along with taking the Face Wrinkler and return to the Onion. Swap to the Red and Yellow group and defeat the Joustmite. Upon defeating it, swap to the Blue group with many Blue Pikmin and collect the Gold Nuggets where the Toady Bloyster once was. After that swap to the Red and Yellow group, the Electric gate would be finished so go and pluck the Yellow Pikmin behind the gate. Swap back to the Blue group and defeat the Water Dumple and pluck the Blue Pikmin. Swap back to the Red and Yellow group and cross the bridge by the Yellow Pikmin sprouts, defeat the two Desiccated Skitter Leaves and obtain the Citrus Lump. Swap to the Blue group and throw the Blue Pikmin onto the Golden Sunseed Berry and go straight to pluck the last Blue Pikmin sprouts. Swap to the Red and Yellow group and charge 10 Pikmin to the Gold Nuggets throw a Yellow Pikmin at a Cupid's Grenade on the snowman. Swap back to the Blue group and defeat the Fiery Blowhog by the sprouts. Go back in the water and defeat the Puckering Blinnow, grab both the Juicy Gaggles and the Gold Nuggets. Swap back to the Red and Yellow group, defeat and harvest the Bearded Amprat as Yellow Pikmin and dig up the Citrus Lump. Swap back to the Blue group, to retrieve the 10 Blue Pikmin, obtain the Dusk Pustules and dig up the Sunseed Berry on the left. Swap back to the Red and Yellow group to retrieve the Golden Sunseed Berry. Reunite both groups and all their Pikmin to defeat Baldy Long Legs, collect the two Disguised Delicacies, the two Golden Cupid's Grenade and the Gold Nuggets. Wait for the items to be delivered and the Platinum Medal should be yours.

Briefing[edit]

This place is too big to find all the treasure alone, so split up! That’s an order! And watch your step so Pikmin don’t fall into any gaps. Those assets are too valuable to lose!

Assignment Report[edit]

We’ve retrieved enough shiny fruits and other treasures that we’re just about ready to head back to Hocotate. There’s one reading of a huge golden object that’s too big to ignore, so we’ll snap that up and then be on our way! Hold on, family—I’ll be back before you know it!
