The flint bug family is a family mistakenly born from an alternate translation to "beetle" in the English version of Pikmin 2 with only one known member, the Doodlebug. In the Japanese version of the game the Doodlebug had always belonged in the flint beetle family. The Iridescent Flint Beetle, the Iridescent Glint Beetle and the Doodlebug also all belong to the genus Pilli, which is a different naming mistake, as it is impossible for members of different families to share a genus.

Main article: Doodlebug.

The Doodlebug is an enemy in Pikmin 2. Similar to the Iridescent Flint Beetle, this bug hides in a spot underground, and when approached, it unburrows and quickly scatters around. Periodically, it stops in place to rest, providing the player with the opportunity to hit it to obtain a reward, normally a spray drop. After resting, when it darts off to a new location, it leaves a cloud of poisonous gas behind, making White Pikmin the ideal choice for combat.

Naming

The name of this family comes from an alternate translation Iridescent Flint Beetle's name, but with the more generic "bug" instead of "beetle".
