The strategies shown are just suggestions.

The Bully Den (どっすん迷路?, lit.: "Thud Maze") is the twenty-eighth level in Pikmin 2's Challenge Mode. Two Waterwraiths will drop from the ceiling approximately a minute into the challenge (when the timer ticks to 270), but your army – consisting entirely of Purple Pikmin – makes them far less of a threat than in the Submerged Castle.

Sublevel 1[edit]

You have a minute before the challenge's main danger appears, so use it to look around and get your bearings. There are two Volatile Dweevils and two Anode Dweevils hiding in the hallway filled with small metal pipes; the Volatile Dweevils are particularly threatening to your slow Purple Pikmin, so run in with a leader to trigger both. The Anode Dweevils can either be punched to death, or simply pummeled with your Purple Pikmin. You should probably avoid destroying the gates, as they will help prevent the Waterwraiths from clumping together, enabling you to fight them one at a time.

Unique to this challenge, the thuds caused by throwing Purple Pikmin can cause enemies to fall from the ceiling; said enemies being a Wollyhop, a Yellow Wollyhop, and six Anode Beetles. It's generally safer to make as many of them drop as possible before the Waterwraiths spawn, as none of them are a match for your army of Purple Pikmin, and any falling on your army during the fights with the Waterwraiths could be disastrous.

The Key is inside one of the two Waterwraiths, while the other one has the Silencer. It will be a difficult battle if the two are extremely close to one another, so try to separate them first. Once alone, neither are particularly threatening, thanks to your Purple Pikmin.

Both Waterwraiths will likely have to be killed to safely transport The Key and any treasures back. If you want a high score, you'll also have to make every enemy drop and defeat them, as every single enemy (besides the Volatile Dweevils) will drop treasure. There's also a few treasures scattered around, but watch your time, given how slowly Purple Pikmin carry objects.

This challenge is the only place in the game to witness a flaw in the Waterwraith's AI – they are not programmed to react to two active leaders. As such, if the challenge is played on two-player mode, the Waterwraiths will completely ignore Player 2/Louie, allowing him to freely attack the Waterwraiths without any retaliation.

Trivia[edit]

  • This is the only other place Waterwraiths appear in Pikmin 2 besides the Submerged Castle. It is also the only place in the entire game to see more than one active Waterwraith.
  • Sublevel 16 of Cavern for a King in Pikmin 4 appears to take some inspiration from this challenge, also featuring two Waterwraiths.
