The Tortured Artist Series is the ninth series of treasures as listed in the Treasure Hoard in Pikmin 2. It is comprised of eight treasures and covers numbers 64 to 71 (63 to 70 in the Japanese version). These items mainly focus on objects relating to art, such as a pencil or sharpener.
A tortured artist is someone who is overly emotional and often frustrated with other people, thinking that no one understands them because of other people's ignorance.
