Kingcaps (マダラタケ?, lit.: "Spotted Mushroom") are a type of fungus in Pikmin 3 that serve as obstacles. They are usually found blocking the way in corridors, and come accompanied with a series of Spotcaps. Leaders can use their Pikmin to destroy Kingcaps, but the leaders can not destroy the king cap themselves.

Kingcaps have a lot of durability and occupy a lot of space, but once cleared, they open up some significant space. Unlike the smaller Spotcaps, Pikmin can latch on to a Kingcap when thrown, and it has a health wheel.

Poison Kingcap[edit]

In Pikmin 4, a poisonous variant of the Kingcap can be seen. It is rarer than its normal counterpart, only being found in 2 caves, the Doppelgänger's Den and the Engulfed Castle. It functions the same as normal Kingcaps, except it can only be attacked by White Pikmin due to its poison. However, they can also be damaged easily by Oatchi's rush.

Suggestions: Add more detail to locations.

Kingcaps are always found with Spotcaps nearby.

Tropical Wilds[edit]

  • A Kingcap appear in a non-obtrusive fashion in the cave next to the landing site, leading up from Alph's crash site.

Distant Tundra[edit]

  • Two Kingcaps appear in the area around Captain Charlie's crash site. These serve as the game's first obstacle.

Tropical Forest[edit]

  • In the Collect Treasure! version, a Kingcap blocks a dead end in the lowest part of the area.
