The Doomsday Apparatus is the heaviest and most valuable treasure in Pikmin 2. It is a large, blue, and heavily rusted training weight. It is found in the Wistful Wild, not too far from the landing site. You must go through the grueling task of getting 100 Purple Pikmin to be able to pick up this unfathomably heavy item, and even then, it takes at least a fourth of a day to carry back to the ship. While carrying the treasure, it is advised that the player attack and defeat the Gatling Groink, Dwarf Bulborbs, and the Decorated Cannon Beetle, so as to clear the way in advance for exploring the rest of the level.
The best place to get 100 purples for the Doomsday Apparatus is the Subterranean Complex, as it has 3 Violet Candypop Buds.
