The Iceblown Dweevil (ハクショイグモ?, lit.: "White Carrying Spider") is an enemy in Pikmin 4. It is a bluish-white dweevil that will spray a freezing liquid when attacked, requiring the player to call back any non-Ice Pikmin. Ideally, the player should overwhelm them with large groups of Pikmin, or simply only use Ice Pikmin to deal with them.

Behavior[edit]

As with most Dweevils, Iceblown Dweevils will attempt to pick up and carry nearby treasures, corpses, and Castaways; it is often necessary to defeat them in order to obtain certain treasures, or to prevent them from interrupting transit. If left alone after it picks up something, it will hide under it, only moving when Pikmin or a Leader approach. On top of being able to carry these items, Iceblown Dweevils (and all other Dweevils) can actually carry any object that is directly carryable by Pikmin, notably useable items from the Pack, can be carried by the Dweevil. This even includes Firestarters, although this can only be seen with Fiery Dweevils in Giant's Hearth ingame. Items that can explode, like Bomb Rocks or Ice Blasts can be used by the Dweevil when it has a target in its sights, replicating the ability of the Volatile Dweevil from Pikmin 2. It should be noted that Dweevils are not usually immune to the effects of these bombs, and will immediately die when the bomb they are carrying explodes, but the Iceblown Dweevil (being an enemy that can survive in the cold) will not be affected by any Ice Blasts it carries in particular.

They are largely passive to Pikmin, and will attempt to run away from them, only attacking in self-defense. If provoked by attacks, they will defend themselves by emitting a cloud of frigid gas. This gas will freeze any non-Ice Pikmin and will additionally freeze playable charactrs if they do not have the Thermal Defense upgrade, requiring the player to whistle to thaw Pikmin out or mash the controller to escape being frozen in ice.

Strategy[edit]

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Ice Pikmin are immune to the Iceblown Dweevil's freezing capabilities, making them ideal to toss onto the Dweevil to remove their carried object. However, because of the Dweevil's low health, it is also feasible to overwhelm and quickly kill them with a large swarm of Pikmin, or have Oatchi ram into them while they are not carrying any objects.

Notes[edit]

Dalmo's Notes[edit]

Ah-CHOO! It's always important to keep your cool, but my proximity to this frosty darling may be making me a bit too cold. Just one blow from this critter as it skitters about on its icy long legs is quite chilling indeed!

Olimar's Notes[edit]

Dweevils have varying body colors in response to their feeding habits. Each species feeds on different types of plants and small animals, so the symbiotic bacteria that creates their pigmentation differ as well.
The Iceblown Dweevil lives in cold habitats and spews frigid gas, so the workings of its symbiotic bacteria are dulled and it retains its natural color, which is white.
It's been confirmed that in more temperate climates where food that the Fiery Dweevil eats is readily available, the Iceblown Dweevil's coloration is much peacher.

Louie's Notes[edit]

Soak the legs in fruit juice, and freeze. Serve as a refreshing ice pop!

  • Iceblown Dweevils can carry Ice Blasts with the only ill effects to themselves being a one second stun when it explodes. This is never used in game, only in the Piklopedia when throwing an Ice Blast at them using Pebble Pitcher or the Item Inventory.
