The Snowy Blowhog (フブキブタ?, lit.: "Blizzard Pig") is an enemy in Pikmin 4 that attacks with chilling wind, freezing Pikmin and otherwise acting like the fiery and watery varieties. Snowy Blowhogs are immune to being frozen.

Behavior[edit]

Whilst idle, the Snowy Blowhog will walk around in a small radius, they won't go far but they don't stand still. When a Leader or any amount of Pikmin get nearby, it will turn to face them to attack with a blast of, non-lethal, icy wind. When the Blowhog attacks, it turns and takes a moment to inhale some air. When doing this, it doesn't defend itself for a few seconds, then it will expel some icy wind. As soon at it starts to inhale to the moment it finishes exhaling, it will not move at all. If there a quite a few Pikmin attacking it, it will 'buck' itself forward in an attempt to knock off any attackers, which is what it also does if Oatchi is attacking. If the Snowy Blowhog wanders too far from its "zone", it will simply just wander back.

Locations[edit]

All Snowy Blowhogs in Pikmin 4 are found in caves.

Last-Frost Cavern[edit]

There is only 1 Snowy Blowhog found in this cave, and it is located after the alcove containing the three Female Sheargrubs and the Director of Destiny. First visit to the cave sees the enemy fighting 5 wild Ice Pikmin.

Subzero Sauna[edit]

There are two Snowy Blowhogs in this cave and both are found on sublevel 1. They are in the section of the cave holding the Disguised Delicacy, which is stuck in a Hydro jelly.

Frozen Inferno[edit]

The Blowhog is found on the third sublevel in the segment where the S.S. Beagle would land. It is found behind the ledge which holds the Citrus Lump.

Trial of the Sage Leaf[edit]

The Blowhog is found in the Final Story of the cave and is found with a Fiery Blowhog. The two of them are keeping the Numbered gate up.

Strategy[edit]

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Since the ice hazard isn't lethal, any Pikmin can be used to attack the Blowhog, however Ice Pikmin are recommended as the ice attack will freeze Pikmin, which Ice Pikmin are immune to. Oatchi with the Thermal Defense gear equipped or Glow Pikmin are also useful. To attack the enemy, throw Pikmin onto the Blowhog's back as soon as it starts to inhale. As soon as it's finished exhaling, whistle all attacking Pikmin off it's back as it will attempt to buck them off which can deflower your Pikmin. Repeat this tactic until the enemy is defeated. If you want to minimize any potential deflowering, use leaf Pikmin or Oatchi.

Notes[edit]

Dalmo's Notes[edit]

What's that? You think the different types of Blowhog all look the same? You need to look a bit closer. For example, this little fellow has light-yellow eyes and an aquamarine body with turquoise lips and blue nails. It all comes together to create a unique appearance designed to give anyone the chills!

Olimar's Notes[edit]

This species has the ability to condense atmosphere carbon dioxide within an organ called a cold sac. The cold sac creates dry ice, and its vapors are then expelled as icy breath. A close relative to this species, the Fiery Blowhog can keep its internal temperature from rising because the phosphoric compounds it expels only ignite when then make contact with the air.

In contrast, the Snowy Blowhog maintains internal body conditions below freezing, and its other internal organs are protected by thick layers of fat and the extracellular freezing that occurs withing its cold sac.

Louie's Notes[edit]

Sprinkle lightly with salt, and eat while the ice bag is still fresh and crunchy. Just one bite will give you the most satisfying brain freeze.
