The Vehemoth Phosbat is a boss in Pikmin 3. It is a large, bioluminescent moth-like creature with massive orange wings, yellow eyes, small stumpy limbs, and a large gaping whale-like mouth.
The creatue resides in dark caves, where it roams freely and is almost completely invisible. It isn't until a captain disturbs it that is lights up it's entire body with bioluminescent hairs which glow pink, and an orange torso. Upon lighting up, it will opens its mouth and inhale ferociously, creating a powerful vortex that will trap pikmin and the captain. After a few seconds, any number of Pikmin up to 10 will be inhaled into its mouth and instantly eaten.
Rock Pikmin are immune to this creature's attack. In the trailer, only Red and Yellow Pikmin are lifted by the vortex and are eaten. The Rock Pikmin on the other hand, remain unaffected by this creature's strong vortex attack most likely because of their superior weight compared to other Pikmin types. Purple Pikmin may also not be affected by the vortex due to their heavy weight. If enough pikmin are thrown onto its back, it can be wieghed down and grounded, where it will try to crawl around with its wings.
This creature has a day named after it: "Defeat the Vehemoth Phosbat!"
