The Swarming Sheargrub is an enemy in Pikmin 3. It can drink nectar to grow and weigh down objects so Pikmin can't carry them. They can also push Pikmin and the Leaders. When you kill a big swarming sheargrub, it shrinks back to it's original size. They are encountered once in story mode in the Tropical Wilds in a group of 6-8. When one is attacked, all sheargrubs in the group scatter. They appear in Mission Mode twice; in Tropical Wilds Remix where a group of 6 are near where Alph starts, and one on the tree stump. 2 groups of 4 appear in Beastly Caverns. Like the Female Sheargrub, it has no mandibles, meaning the worst they can do is either waste your time (trying to kill them) or annoy you (by weighing down objects).

This page is part of the merge with Pikmin Wiki, and needs resolving. Please bear with us as we do so.

Before the import, this subject had a page both on Pikipedia and Pikmin Wiki. You are currently reading the Pikipedia version, and the Pikmin Wiki version can be found here. Both versions need to be manually merged together and placed on the current page.

The Swarming Sheargrub is a green sheargrub with red eyes found in Pikmin 3. It, in every way excluding size and color, resembles a Female Sheargrub. They are known to follow Pikmin from a distance and can distract an entire squad as a result.

They move around in swarms at high speed (fastest of any known Mandiblard). They have no form of offence but can move quickly, taking any attacking Pikmin with them. Once they come across any nectar, they will consume it and grow in size. Most swarms come in groups of seven.

When they spot a salvagable object—such as a fruit, pellet, or carcass—they will jump and sit on top of it, weighing it down, requiring more Pikmin to carry the object. The larger they are, the more they will weigh.

While they are an annoying hindrance to the player, they are easily defeated like any other type of Mandiblard. However, once a single member of a swarm is killed, the rest will disperse and run away at incredibly fast speeds. It's advised to call all Pikmin back at this point, as they will attempt to chase the fleeing Sheargrubs, only to end up getting themselves lost.

Pikmin 3 Prima Guide

"As the name implies, these fast-moving enemies travel in relatively large groups. Swarming Sheargrubs patrol established paths, jostling any Pikmin they encounter along the way. These pests often latch onto fruit while it's being transported. This essentially increases the weight of the fruit, making it more difficult for your Pikmin to carry."
