While life-forms that excrete foul musks to warn of danger are not rare, the
Doodlebug is the only species known to release flatulence when active above
ground. Interestingly enough, since it is merely releasing the gas creating by
decay of the contents of the creature's intestines, it does not have a special
musk-producing organ. This means the creature is in fact merely flatulating.
Spectral analysis of the rank gas indicates that is contains not only methane,
but hydrogen sulphide, making the flatulence a Grade XIII biohazard.

The Doodlebug is an enemy in the Pikmin 2 game. It is the same in general appearance to the Iridescent Flint Beetle, except it is coated with dirt and has small flies hovering around it. However, it is actually in the Flint Bug family, not the Flint Beetle family. They, like Iridescent Glint Beetles, drop spray, ultra-bitter spray. They are never seen above ground. However, some people think that the strange bugs found in the Wistful Wild are juvenile Doodlebugs, due to their appearance and the fact that they release poison. When Doodlebugs move, they flatulate and leave noxious clouds of poisonous gas wherever they were, thus making nearby Pikmin subject to poisoning. They may drop treasures in Challenge Mode.

Many of these can be found on Sublevel 1 of the Frontier Cavern.
