Unmarked Spectralid is an insect in Pikmin 2. It resembles a small butterfly, colored either red, yellow, or purple; in the Piklopedia, blue and green variants are also (rarely) seen. It is one of the harmless enemies in the Pikmin series, having absolutely no means of attack. It is located in specific patches of plants and appeares upon being disturbed, leaving the area's boundaries not long after. its color indicates what it drops, being either Ultra-spicy Spray, Ultra-bitter Spray or a pool of nectar.

The only area above ground it appeares in is the Awakening Wood, one group hidden in a Margaret near the Sunseed Berry, and another in a nearby Figwort (next to the bridge there); red and purple Spectralids do not appear above ground, and can only be found (along with more yellow Spectralids) in "rest sublevels" of certain caves. Usually underground, it is found in clusters of twenty or more. This creature is so delicate that, upon being petrified, it will fall down to the ground and crumble.

Killing Method

Throw Pikmin rapidly into the air in all directions in an attempt to knock it down, or spray a large group with an Ultra-bitter Spray when with a small number of Pikmin. The latter is only really worth it if red-or blue-colored Spectralids are present in the swarm.

Trivia

  • After both the Spectralids and some Grub-dog species have been added to the in-game Piklopedia, the Spectralids may be seen flying around Red, Orange, and Hairy Bulborbs.
  • Spectralids will occasionally land on idle Mamutas.
